About the Tests
- In 2007-2008 Michigan used the Michigan Merit Examination (MME) to assess students in grade 11 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
- Unlike public schools, private schools are not required to give the MME, but some do on a voluntary basis. State averages displayed on private school profiles include both public and private schools.
- The MME is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan.
- The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
