School Mission
- Our mission is to teach children who are deaf and hard of hearing to listen, talk, read and succeed. We partner with families and collaborate with universities, educators and other professionals worldwide to help children communicate to achieve their fullest potential.
Our mission begins with the children in the CID auditory-oral school, who benefit from our proven, assessment-and ability-based teaching methods combined with the latest from mainstream education, from birth to age 12.
CID's highly skilled, master's level teachers of the deaf emphasize speech, language and listening instruction throughout the curriculum. Literacy, social and academic preparation are also at the heart of our work to prepare children to participate in mainstream classrooms.

Instructional Program Highlights
- The Joanne Parrish Knight Family Center provides crucial support and education for families and their hearing-impaired babies birth-3. Home visits for babies, nursery class, age 2.
- The CID preschool-kindergarten offers a dynamic curriculum for 3- to 5-year-olds fostering emerging literacy, pre-academics, social skills and the whole child.
- The CID primary school offers a mainstream academic curriculum including classes in art, music, computers, physical education and social skills.
- Our master teachers weave speech, language and listening instruction throughout the students' classes and activities.

Parent and Community Support
- We encourage parents to be fully involved with our teachers, speech therapists and audiologists as an integral member of their child's educational team. All nursery school classrooms have one-way observation rooms for parents.
We offer regular social and educational opportunities for parents and families. The CID Parent Organization also sponsors events and activities.
